First day of School!!!

Today was the first day of school. Aunica started 2nd grade and loves it. She has a great teacher and I just know it is going to be a challenging but fun year for her. Jack started Preppie Kindergarten today (1st year of a 2 year program) and he absolutely loved it. His teacher is awesome and has a lot of experience with young kids. She has taught Kindergarten for many years and took some special training courses in the last year to become a Prep K teacher. She will be using something called High Scope Learning/Teaching...it is a Philosophy of learning. The best way it has been descibed to me is that it is a form of Montessori mixed with a little Piaget mixed with some academics, but this year will be mostly about the child, how the kids interact in social situations and how they explore their environments. They will have some academic instruction but nothing too in depth. I am so excited about that---Jack is still only 4, he won't turn 5 until the end of November. The classroom is set up in a certain way and the class is getting some new furnature that sounds like it is going to make the room so comfy. Jack's class is made up of 5 girls and 11 boys LOL SEE boys are less mature than girls :) The kids must make the Kindergarten cutt-off of being 5 by this December to be in the class, but may not be ready for an academic K class. I chose to wait with Jack because he needs the extra year, he is still so young I think regular K would have been too much. This class seems so perfect for him. He is SO happy. He told me today that his teacher is "cool" and his class is fun and he likes his new friends. When I picked him up he asked if we could go to playgroup though :( so I know he misses his friends already. A couple of pics...

Labor Day

It's Monday---Ken is off from work because it is a Holiday and his brother is only working a half day so we are all doing something together later. This kids have 1 more day of summer and then school starts again. I am excited and they are too. Jack keeps asking if it is Tember yet, because he wants to go to the playground school. Well, today is September 1st---so only a couple more days. I really hope that Jack likes it and everything goes smoothly. He will have some pretty big adjustments to make, like not being able to do exactly what he wants to do and when he wants to do it. I think he will get into the groove of it quickly though. Luckily there is a girl who was in his speech class who will be in class with him, that may make things a little easier. To me, this is just extra learning. The real Kindergarten isn't until next year, so this is just like the icing and not the actual cake---not the substance of his learning really. Anyway, so we got up at 8, watched TV, I did laundry and Ken is building a shelf for the back of the garage in hopes of cleaning up the pit he calls a garage. Tonight I hope to watch another episode of The Riches season 1 that we have on DVD (we don't have cable so when the good cable shows are released on DVD we buy them and watch them) we have Dexter season 2 waiting for us when The Riches season 1 is over. I love TV LOL
